Training Director
Gary has over 25 years experience in the Armed Forces attaining the rank of major before leaving in 2009. He has served across the UK and Germany in a wide variety of roles as a leader, manager and latterly, gained extensive experience in the MoD acquisition process.
A specialist in education and training, Gary has taught leadership, management and defence studies to level 5 NVQ, been a project manager in the prestigious Defence Academy, and provided autonomous consultancy support in training and development to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), the largest Corps in the British Army. During his time working for REME, Gary worked with many external, internationally renowned Defence companies, such as BAe Systems and Elbit, leading training evaluation teams evaluating complex electrical and mechanical trade training across the world, including secret classified projects.
Gary’s particular area of interest is in the management of training systems and he has made significant improvements through course design, development, implementation and evaluation including: accrediting a Royal Signals technical communications course to a Foundation degree, developing a coaching and mentoring course for junior engineering managers and deriving the REME’s training evaluation strategy, including the training management system’s policies and procedures.
Whilst at University studying for an MSc, Gary developed his knowledge in the use of technology for learning, delivering an innovative insight into the use of games as a means for learning. Whilst working for the REME, Gary was instrumental in the acquisition and development of an innovative project using the Nintendo DS Lite to assist in skill fade and revision in the classroom environment for the largest trade group in the REME, the vehicle mechanics, consisting of almost 15% of REME manpower.
Over the last 10 years in education and training, Gary has helped many officers and soldiers in developing their careers, and this led to his interest in career management and resignation from the Army to join Sprint Outplacement Services.
Gary is now Training Director at Sprint Outplacement Services and has been instrumental in the design, development and evaluation of the Sprint training courses and is one of the leads for business development. He has completed a number of outplacement programmes, both individual and group, across education, defence, finance, relocation and engineering.
